The Great Move to Canada
By: Penelope S.
It was dark inside the plane when I woke up. Dad told me that we were in Canada. All I could remember was that we had left the hotel in China in the early morning to catch the flight. That morning I was tired, everything went by so quickly. Also, I remembered that I had played and said good bye to my best friend the day before we left. I have the painful memory of leaving things behind. I left many things behind, my friends, my family, my teachers, etc.
Then it was a quick day at Hong Kong International Airport, I spent almost a day going from one shop to another. It was a huge and modern airport. People went on all kinds of business trips. There were officers, travelers, waiters in restaurants and so many others. I have been in a plane so many times each summer. During the winter break we had, I had been in a plane all by myself……my family loves to travel. After waiting in line to board the plane, I was a zombie. I cannot remember anything. I knew that my time on planes was always boring. I read, I slept, I ate, I thought, I drank, I wrote…The plane took off, flew and landed in a brand new place for me. It was a cold and snowy country, where I had only been once back in 2005. My memory traveled all the way back and suddenly stopped.
I could not think of anything until dad called me. I half shivered , half shook so hard that I was like a dog just got out of water. Suddenly, everything came back to my mind. We were at Vancouver International Airport. It was a big airport, but not as colossal as the Hong Kong airport. It did not have that many shops, but I liked it. We waited in line of for the customs and waited at immigration. It was not too bad, but just being stuck inside all day drove me crazy. Oh, I liked the beautiful sunshine, plus a bit of snow which was not enough for me. I watched the road. A all my dizzy, tired and sad fleeing evaporated gone back, trees gone back, sea gone back as the taxi drove. I realized something when we got to the hotel, I yelled out, “Oh, my Gods! It was the exactly same hotel that we slept in 2005”! The taxi driver turned around and made a face. I hared into the hotel, I was remembering, jumping and feeling all exciting, left my mom and dad got all the luggage that we had. I love the sunny days, but cloudy days are better for me. I like the dark and rainy days in Vancouver. Too bad, we could only stay in Vancouver for one day. The next day, we were going to fly for Ottawa, heading for one of my mom’s uncle’s house.
The fly was not bad. We arrived at the midnight. Mom’s uncle was already there, waiting for us to go. There, a van drove through the serene night, leaving starts twinkling behind us. The clear nights without the noise of busy urban streets and the light shown out of offices are pretty. The night was so quiet that I could hear a dog’s bark pierce the tranquility. Then my mom’s voice came, she pocked me and reminded me that we were right in front of grand parents (that was how I called my mom’s aunt and uncle)house. The van’s engine sound was long gone, stuffs were already unloaded. I greeted my grandma and played with BunBun who was barking to welcome us.
I did not know when I fell into this deeply sleep. When I opened my eyes again, the sun was high in the sky. I yawned sleepy and went down stairs. Every one else were all down stairs in the kitchen, eating and chatting. I greeted them, ate a bit and asked to go outside playing snow in the garden. Grandma and grandpa hate the snow and the cold. I love the white, perfect snow flakes.
Again, it was a great sunshine, I smiled and jumped into the snow.
It is a brand new start!
